Hi Shan, welcome to the forum. I wouldn't limit yourself to archery only areas. You may want to hunt in gun areas that may improve your possibilities at sending an arrow into the kill zone of a pig. I recommend you talk to Alan at the club.

There is no prohibition to taking pigs with a shotgun. The shotgun requirement is slugs only. In some hunting areas at VAFB, you can only use a shotgun or bow. Good luck!

Canned hunt..... Did you break a sweat??
Was it like shooting Bessie out in the pasture?
Whatever happened to fair chase?
You're right about this for the most part, but did you even consider that some 100% disabled veterans are limited to following doctor's orders? So before you mouth off, you may want to slow down a bit and privately ask the individual.

1. All hunters in the field must wear at the minimum 144 square inches of orange. This is year around.
2. Transporting Firearms: Firearms must be cleared and safe, with the breech open and equipped with a tamper-resistant mechanical lock or other safety device. While transporting firearms, they will be placed in the trunk or in a securable compartment closest to the rear of the vehicle. Transporting firearms on bicycles, motorcycles, or any two or three-wheeled vehicle is prohibited. Firearms will not be stowed in such a manner as to appear to be a concealed weapon, e.g., under seats or partially hidden. Ammunition must be stored and locked away separately. Examples of concealment: hiding a firearm or dangerous weapon on one's person; transporting a firearm or dangerous weapon in a privately owned vehicle hidden from view, unless secured in the vehicles trunk as described above. Rule of thumb, if its pavement the weapon must be stored appropriately.
3. A5 Hunting Area: Is an Archery Only Area located on Sudden Ranch. Also, vehicular traffic is prohibited in this area. Hunters must park outside its boundary.

15 Aug 2011
Attention Civilian Hunters!
With the AAFES restriction stopping all sales to civilians, the state of California has allowed Vandenberg AFB (VAFB) to honor the Zone A Deer tag. Civilians authorized to hunt on VAFB will be able to purchase Zone A Deer tags at any licensed office. As you know, Zone A has already begun. What this means is that you may hunt right now with a Zone A tag on VAFB. Zone A season is 13 August 20 September. This office has to follow the laws of the state pertaining to that tag, i.e., Buck Only, Forked Horn or better. There will be no season extension for Zone A for loss hunting days due to operational mission requirements.
Use Fee Stamp Sales
Due to logistical problems, this office (Conservation Law Enforcement) will be selling the Hunting Use Fee Stamp. $50.00 dollars, cash only.

Amy and I left Vandenberg AFB FamCamp on June 2, 2011. We are currently at Johnstown, CO (North of Denver). We'll soon be heading to Wisconsin Dells to participate in our first Midwest Smart Car Rally, June 10-12. Then it's on to our 2nd North American Heartland Owners Rally at Goshen, IN. After Heartland rally, we'll stay around for while I have some upgrades and a few repairs performed by the Heartland RV company. You can follow our Travelogue at http://graystarcity.info/I don't know when I'll be back.

Who insures that the escorted guest is a United States citizen and cleared by a background check prior to hunting the installation?
The guest needs a pass to get on base. The Visitors Center runs the background check and provides the pass. To register the guest for hunting, the VAFB Conservation Office requires the guest to produce the pass.
